Golf tourism in the Algarve is faring particularly well, noted Nuno Aires, president of the Algarve Tourism Board, with the trend expected to continue.
"We are well known internationally. We are well known for the quality of the golf, the service that we provide and the weather is normally good," he continued.
Mr Aires highlighted that the country's natural areas are particularly appealing to those on golf holidays in Portugal, as is the rapidly-expanding nature of the Algarve's tourism industry.
Holidaymakers were recently advised by Sean Tipton, spokesman for Abta - the Travel Association, to exchange their cash at the last minute in order to take advantage of the best rates.
He predicted that British travellers will get more euros for their money in the New Year.
