Loulé Carnival boasts Algarve’s longest street parade

On the 6, 7 and 8 March the famous Loulé parade will make its way down the city’s main Avenida José da Costa Mealha, between 3pm and 6pm. Fourteen floats and hundreds of performers, musicians and dancers will liven up the streets with the traditional sounds and colours of carnival.

The event is now considered one of the most important of the Algarve’s winter season.

With the theme ‘E Nós Por Cá’, Loulé’s parade this year takes a satirical look at Portuguese society, politics and the problems the country is currently facing.

The floats will be decorated with puppets of national politicians including former sea minister and popular party leader Paulo Portas and Prime Minister José Socrates.

The parade will also include Samba dancers, entertainers and live music, for an entry fee of two euros that will go to the Associação Social e Cultural da Tôr for the construction of a retirement home.
