It appears that Spain’s woes - a string of property scandals, corruption, an oversupply of housing, and dodgy legislation, such as Valencia’s ‘land grab’ law - has finally led people to look for property in Portugal.

Portugal has leapt from fourth – two months ago - to the primary most searched for destination to buy a home abroad, on our website.

Other big movers were: Italy, up from fourth to third, Greece, up from seventh to sixth, Thailand, up from 14th to ninth, and Brazil, up from 15th to tenth.

In spite of the global economic downturn, Brits’ appetite for property overseas remains firm, based on enquiries for properties to buy on Homes Overseas online.
