The matchplay contest sees readers of different papers across the country play off to become the local champion.

Each newspaper's winner at the end of their knockout competiton gets to play in the national final – in the Algarve.

The trip is free to the winner, and of course there's the chance to become a national champion.

The Sunshine Challenge, launched in 1991, is a golf tournament run in regions throughout the UK. Various well-known newspapers and national golf magazines host the Regional Championships.
